Vedic Portrait FAQ

Common questions about the sidereal zodiac, nakshatras, padas, and how the Vedic portrait differs from a Western natal chart.

What is a Janma nakshatra?

The Janma nakshatra is the lunar mansion the Moon occupied at your birth. Vedic astrology uses 27 nakshatras; your Moon nakshatra is considered the most personal point of the chart and shapes the emotional and instinctive nature.

How is this different from a natal chart?

A Western natal chart uses the tropical zodiac tied to the seasons. The Vedic portrait uses the sidereal zodiac tied to the fixed stars (Lahiri ayanamsha), so signs are shifted by roughly 24 degrees, and it puts the Moon nakshatra at the center.

What is a pada?

Each nakshatra is divided into four quarters called padas. The pada refines the meaning of your nakshatra and links it to a specific navamsha sign, adding nuance to the reading.

What is the nakshatra lord?

Every nakshatra is ruled by a planet (for example Rahu, Venus, or Ketu). This planetary lord colors how the nakshatra expresses itself and is important in Vedic timing systems such as the Vimshottari dasha.

Do I need the exact birth time?

Exact birth time is strongly recommended. The Lagna (Ascendant) and, in rare cases, the Moon nakshatra pada can change quickly, so accurate time gives the most precise portrait.

Why do you charge 3 requests?

We calculate the full sidereal chart and run an AI interpretation, so the Vedic portrait costs three requests from your weekly balance or plan.
